Last Weekend to Catch “Complete Works…” at Ghent

Posted by Gail M. Burns - January 2010

The critics have spoken and audiences are in stitches…with full houses last weekend, and just three more shows to go, “Complete Works” at the Ghent Playhouse is a hit! The show is an irreverent romp through ALL of Shakespeare’s work, originally created by the Reduced Shakespeare Company and adapted for the Ghent Playhouse stage by co-directors Tony Pallone and Colleen Lovett.

Don’t miss your last chance to see this masterwork of Shakespearean deconstruction as you’ve never seen it before: Despite the fact that the original RSC production was done with three male actors, Pallone and Lovett have taken considerable liberty with the script and expanded the cast to two men and three women…and, as Berkshire Bright Focus critic J. Peter Bergman reports, “The directors have fortunately chosen the right actors…(they) take command of the stage and manage to stay themselves, or parodies of themselves, as they take on the great array of characters devised by Big Bill S, King of the Stage.”

Bergman continues: “This is a show that delivers on the promise of its title and, if it doesn’t bring you every word, you leave with quotes swimming through your brain and a giggle in your heart. Big Bill S. would be pleased.” And the set, costumes and lighting design are nothing short of brilliant, either; reviewer Gail Burns of “Gail Sez” even goes to far as to say “I think the Reduced Shakespeare Company should swing by, take a look, and hire this design team tout suite!”

The show features Roseann Cane, Matt MacArevey, Prudence J.M. Theriault, Tracy Trimm and Jen Van Iderstyne. Produced by Tom Detwiler, the crew also includes Matt Sikora (Stage Manager), Bill Visscher (Set Design), Dave Malsan (Lighting Design) and Joanne Maurer (Costumes).

So get thee to the box office! Remaining performances are Jan 29-31, Friday and Saturday at 8 pm and Sunday at 2 pm. Tickets are $15/$12 for Ghent Playhouse Members. Call 392-6264 for reservations, or visit www.ghentplayhouse.org for more information.
