Curtain Call Seeking to Fill One Role in “Harvey”

Posted by Gail M. Burns - February 2010

Curtain Call Theatre (Latham, NY) is holding additional auditions for the part of WILSON (M; 20s-30s) in Harvey by Mary Chase. Production Dates: April 9 – May 8.

Wilson is an orderly at Chumley’s Rest, the sanitarium in the play. He’s a little rough on the outside but he’s a good guy at heart. Wilson and Myrtle Mae (Elwood’s niece) end up being attracted to one another. The ideal actor for this role will have a good sense of comic timing and will have good chemistry on stage with the actress playing Myrtle Mae.

Information about the production:

  • Harvey is a Pulitzer Prize winning comedy set in the 1940s. The play tells the story of Elwood P. Dowd, an affable yet eccentric man who is kind to everyone he meets. Of course, he also introduces everyone to his imaginary friend, Harvey, a six-and-a-half foot rabbit. After embarrassing his sister, Veta, at a high society function by “sharing” Harvey with the socialites, Veta tries to have Elwood committed to a sanatorium. In a comic turn of events, Veta is the one who is committed – if only temporarily! As the rest of the plot unfolds, Elwood’s kindness and generous heart begin to overpower everyone’s fears about his imaginary – and lovable – friend, Harvey.
  • Rehearsals will begin in mid-February and will typically be on Sun-Wed evenings (although other days and times are possible).
  • The production runs Thursdays through Sundays, April 9 through May 8.

Interested actors should either email Cindy Bates at cindy@batesny.com or call 877-7529 to schedule an audition.
