Theatre Company at Hubbard Hall Presents “Hadrian VII”
Posted by Gail M. Burns - February 2010
CAMBRIDGE, NY (February 9, 2010)-The Theatre Company at Hubbard Hall (TCHH) will present Peter Luke’s Hadrian VII, a rarely-performed dramatic gem, in its Freight Depot space, February 18 through March 7. Based on a turn-of-the-20th-century novel of the same name by Frederick Rolfe, Hadrian VII depicts Rolfe on his last legs, subject to an elaborate fantasy that places him in the chair of St. Peter. As the imagined Pope Hadrian VII, Rolfe, a highly unconventional, chain-smoking Englishman, envisions himself peremptorily reforming the Church and the entire early 20th-century world against inevitable opposition from the established Roman Catholic TCHH favorite Doug Ryan will star in the title role, headlining a cast that includes Kim Johnson Turner, Richard Howe, Anastasia Satterthwaite and Benjie White. Hadrian VII will be directed by John Hadden. There will be 10 performances of Hadrian VII, Feb. 18 (pay what you will), Feb. 19, 20, 26, 27 and Mar. 5 and 6 at 8 p.m., and Feb. 21, 28 and Mar. 7 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $18 for TCHH season subscribers, $20 for Hubbard Hall members, $24 for non-members and $15 for students. Tickets may be reserved and purchased by calling (518) 677-2495. Hubbard Hall is an historic opera house located at 25 E. Main St. in Cambridge, NY. For information, visit www.hubbardhall.org
