St. Joseph High School Presents “The Wiz”

St. Joseph Central High School students will showcase the Broadway Musical THE Wiz which retells the The Wizard of Oz in the context of African American culture. The two share the same story line in both films, centering around a women named Dorothy, who winds up in a world know as OZ. She does everything in here powers to escape and to be reunited with her friends. At this point is where the similarities end. “The Wiz” shows “OZ” in Harlem New York a heavy populated area and brought to life by spray paintings. The musical became a popular film featuring some of Motown’s biggest stars, Diana Ross as Dorthy, Michael Jackson the Sarecrow and Nipley Russell as the Tinman.
