a politically & historically incorrect comedy…
Pauline Productions – producer of the Valley’s recent smash hit “Parallel Lives” – presents this fresh, edgy satire by the talented young comedy duo Robert & Brooks. Hysterically funny, yet full of warmth, this is the irreverent tale of a historic re-enactment site gone terribly wrong.
This performance will take place at The Northampton Historic Society – as part of Pauline Productions’ mission to ‘ignite’ local venues as performance arenas…and bring cutting edge, top quality dramatic and comic theatre to the Valley.
Hilarious, no-holds-barred satire!
Mayflower Plantation by Dan Robert and Lisha Brooks is a hilarious peek into the goings-on both “on” and behind-the-scenes of a dysfunctional re-enactment “gone bad.” (Think Sturbridge Village gone awry). Watch the shenanigans unfold as the shoddy Mayflower Village, already a bit short on historical accuracy, comes under the legal scrutiny of a law-suit. The big-burly Lenard (played by Bill Dwight) has been accused of holding another re-enactor’s son upside down over a well “the way they used to punish children in those days” he decries.
The cast of characters include: Galinda, the matriarch of the reenactment (and the re-enactors) is sweet on the outside but opportunistically sadistic on the inside. Mac, her elderly husband in the re-enactment, is confined to a wheelchair and pretends to be mute so he doesn’t have to talk to her. Several of Galinda’s foster children are employed at Mayflower and can’t wait to get away! Jerome, an Israeli actor who has been hired to play the one Native American in the reenactment (“Hey, close enough”) is stationed at the Time-Out Teepee where the bad kids in the audience are marooned for the duration. Janice is the witch-of-sorts of Mayflower Village. She took up residence on the land during the “summer of love” 1969. Unable to get her to leave, she has been incorporated into the reenactment -unpaid, of course! And, in charge of keeping all these characters on-task and the Village running smoothly, is the mere 18 year old Ernnie. Overwhelmed, his speech impediment does not reinforce his authority.
